Salesforce Sales Cloud is a customizable CRM and sales automation platform covering contacts, accounts, opportunities, forecasting and workflow automation, sold in tiered per-user editions.

Verdict: Independent users treat Salesforce as the most capable and customizable CRM but rarely as the right choice for small teams: of 24 non-promotional comments with an opinion, most describe it as overkill, expensive at the tiers that unlock automation and API access, and dependent on paid admins or consultants for routine changes. Its defenders are mostly people who have administered or implemented it alongside Dynamics or Zoho and found it easier or more complete, and several warn that leaving a heavily customized org is slow and costly. The corpus is heavily seeded: 39 of 100 comments were promotional, mostly agencies, freelance admins and rival CRM or custom-build vendors pitching in r/CRM threads from teams trying to leave Salesforce.

What users like

  • Users and implementers describe it as able to model almost any process, with more depth than Zoho or HubSpot when heavily customized[1][2][3][4][5]
  • People who have administered or implemented both Salesforce and Dynamics 365 say Salesforce is easier and more intuitive to work in[1][2]
  • Seen as the mature, industry-standard choice, and a team that moved to Zoho says Zoho does most of the same things less smoothly[1][2][3]
  • One user reports Salesforce still gives sizeable discounts and that admin work can now be done through the CLI with AI coding tools, cutting consultant hours[1]

What users complain about

  • Widely called overkill for small teams, with admin overhead that forces the business to wrap itself around the tool[1][2][3][4][5]
  • Expensive, and the price climbs steeply when a small team needs a higher edition; one 18-person team cut CRM spend from about $90k to under $25k a year by leaving[1][2][3][4][5]
  • Routine changes often require a paid consultant; one team reports $200 per hour and three-week turnarounds for small edits[1][2]
  • Leaving is slow: users report months-long migrations, painful exports of attachments and email history, and custom flows that must be rebuilt rather than copied[1][2][3]
  • Interface and search are described as dated and bloated, and one buyer found the Agentforce AI demo amounted to an account-lookup chatbot[1][2][3]

Best for

  • Larger sales orgs with an in-house admin to own the system
  • Companies with complex custom objects, permissions and integrations
  • Teams that want the CRM with the widest consultant and integration ecosystem

Skip it if

  • Small teams of under about 20 users without a dedicated admin
  • Buyers who want to change fields and workflows themselves without consultants
  • Budget-sensitive teams that need API access or heavier automation on lower tiers

In their own words

Hey mate, so here’s a take from someone who’s worked in the CRM space for about 20 years. I now run an agency were we focus on crm implementation amongst other things. Salesforce is a powerhouse. It can pretty much do anything but that comes at a a price and as you pointed out, without someone owning it internally you become beholden to what someone else built. That’s not a bad thing but again it’s an ongoing cost (…

i would suggest salesforce, since you can do pretty much anything there and since you are a small team the price wont me high (and you dont need different 'clouds') the only thing might need investing is the initial setup aka get a developer or admin to basically kickstart everything.

We moved from Salesforce to Zoho about two years ago, 30 person firm, not construction but similar in that we track long project cycles not high volume leads. Your situation sounds very close to ours. The cost difference is real but you pay for it in other ways. Zoho can do most of what Salesforce does, just not as smoothly. The UI complaints you read about are not people being picky, it genuinely feels like usin…

You've diagnosed this better than most people who post here. Quick reality checks on your five: Negotiating. Non-renewal is the only lever that actually moves the number, and it only works if it's credible, which yours now is because you have a real HubSpot quote. Timing helps too, end of their quarter or fiscal year. The catch: the discount almost always rides on a multi-year commitment, which is the one thing you …

Honestly, the best CRM is usually the one your team will actually keep updated consistently. HubSpot is probably the easiest overall for usability, Pipedrive is great for simple sales pipelines, and Salesforce is powerful but can get very complex fast. We actually ended up using a lightweight custom CRM internally because most platforms had way more features than we realistically needed.

As a user and admin for both i would go for salesforce for the intuitive nature of it where as D365 is MS integrated and hence is wildly used. Would prefer salesforce ove D365 anyday.
