Gong is a revenue AI platform that records and analyzes customer calls and other interactions, with add-on products for sales engagement (Gong Engage), forecasting and enablement.

Verdict: Independent discussion is thin and comes almost entirely from r/salesdevelopment: 13 non-promotional comments carry a real opinion, and most of the rest are about Gong as an employer. Users split the product in two: the call recording, transcripts, AI summaries and CRM sync are well liked, even by its critics, while Gong Engage, the sequencing add-on, draws complaints about missing basics like A/B testing, weekly bugs and slowdowns, with several teams moving back to Salesloft or Outreach. Six of 33 comments were promotional, mostly pitching cheaper call-coaching or sequencing alternatives.

What users like

  • Call recording, transcripts and AI call notes are rated well, including by users who dislike the rest of the platform[1][2][3][4][5]
  • Syncs call notes into the CRM (Salesforce contacts, accounts and opportunities, or HubSpot), which users say saves manual logging when configured properly[1][2]
  • Produces post-call summaries, key takeaways and templated follow-up emails, which one user's org treats as a required part of every meeting[1][2]
  • Can be set up to flag BANT questions, call length and rep-to-customer talk ratio and score each call for coaching[1]
  • AI search across past conversations, emails and contacts on an account saves one Engage user significant time[1]

What users complain about

  • Gong Engage's sequencer lacks basics such as A/B testing of emails, with requested features long described as "in the pipeline"[1][2][3]
  • Engage is buggy and slow: one year-long user reports a new bug most weeks, freezing email windows, an email-deleting bug and random multi-hour slowdowns[1][2]
  • Several teams that consolidated onto Engage say they regret it or are moving back to Salesloft or Outreach for sequencing[1][2][3]

Best for

  • Sales teams that want calls recorded, transcribed and summarized automatically
  • Managers coaching reps from recorded calls
  • Teams that want call notes synced into Salesforce or HubSpot

Skip it if

  • SDR teams that need a mature email sequencer with A/B testing
  • Small teams that want self-serve, published pricing

In their own words

You mentioned you use Gong... start inviting the 'Gong Recorder' to your meetings. It is basically a requirement at my org. Records them, gives you transcripts, key takeaways from the calls or meetings, and provides templated email followups. It is a game changer.

This is great! We use gong too and you certainly need to listen to every all, setup for it to catch your BANT questions, call length, ratio of you to the customers talk time, and the ai rates all of it. It will also record the call and give you very detailed notes that you can put right into your CRM. We have gone and HubSpot link together so they automatically sync saving a lot of time.

Have been using Gong Engage Professional for over a year now. They AI is pretty good to look for historic conversations/emails/contacts in the accounts. It does save me time, quite a bit of time. The audio recording and transcript with AI integration are also pretty good, to be honest. That's where it stops. Everything else is a toss-up. The "flows" are slow, and the email "windows" often freeze. Every other w…
This was me last year. Salesloft to engage. Hate gong engage so much. Like gongs call recording AI etc. just hate the rest

Used to work at salesloft. It’s so easy to sway people away from gong engage. But their call recording tool is superior (imo it’s just more noise tho). Because of that, they essentially offer gong engage for free so people consolidate with them. Their engage product is trash and we had a lot of customers bounce back after leaving

Gong does AI call summaries, and if you have Gong connected to Salesforce properly the conversation will sync over to the Contact, Account, and open Opportunities and you can set up triggers for field updates to automatically happen (depending on how crazy you get with field updates after a call). Salesforce can draft follow up emails, although I’d probably have some human review/approval in there for some QA. It sou…
