Granola is an AI notepad for meetings that transcribes calls and turns them, together with the user's own notes, into meeting notes that can be searched and queried later.

Verdict: Independent discussion is thin and comes mostly from product managers in r/ProductManagement: only 10 non-promotional comments carry a real opinion, and few come from sales teams. Most of those users like it, citing that no bot joins the call, that it produces structured summaries from templates or custom prompts, and that past meetings can be queried later, and several pay for it themselves. The main trade-off is that the output still needs a human check: users say they double-check action items and clean up notes before sharing, and two found it unremarkable.

What users like

  • No bot joins the meeting: it captures the computer's audio, so users can type sparse notes and let it fill the gaps[1][2]
  • Produces structured summaries, and templates or custom prompts help shape the notes and pull out action items[1][2][3]
  • Meeting context can be queried, during the call or afterwards across internal and external meetings[1][2]
  • Several users pay for it themselves and recommend it strongly for transcript-only needs, one saying it changed their ability to do work[1][2][3]

What users complain about

  • Summaries and action items still need a human check: users double-check action items and edit notes before reusing them[1][2][3]
  • Some users find it unremarkable, calling it "so far meh" while testing or "just another note taker" whose value depends on what you do with the transcripts[1][2]

Best for

  • People in back-to-back meetings who want notes without a bot joining the call
  • Product managers who feed meeting notes into docs, Notion or an AI knowledge base
  • Users who want to search or ask questions across past meetings

Skip it if

  • Teams that want AI action items they can trust without reviewing them

In their own words

[Granola.ai](http://Granola.ai) is amazing and currently free. It's non-intrusive (meaning no AI joins the meeting) and you can query it in real-time. You can even give it custom prompts for transcripts to be converted into meeting notes. I find it incredible. I'll be bummed when I see the price tag to pay for it!

Trying granola as my notetaker, it doesn’t join the call, but it takes in my computer’s audio So I’m essentially typing down some notes, skipping most of it because granola will fill in those gaps.

i tried granola and it’s solid, especially for structured summaries. also tested tactiq because it syncs to notion, which is nice if you already use that for docs/tasks. but tbh i’ve still had to double check the summaries to make sure the action items actually made sense. if you’re just getting started, i’d say pick the one that works with the tools you already use (calendar, notion, slack, etc).

Not only that, but it has templates that will help you capture the action items instead of blindly hoping the agent pulls them out of the patter. On top of all of that, take 5m after a meeting and jot down your own notes. Read what granola puts out and make sure you agree. Stop ceding everything to AI, this is your responsibility and your job.

Granola, Claude, Notion. Used to pay for Figma but my company picked it up. Protip, if you are into Granola, pay for a subscription to Lenny's Newsletter and you'll get a 10 seat business subscription to Granola for a year for free.
