6/100

Profound tracks how brands appear in AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, monitoring a set of prompts for mentions, citations and competitors, with prompt-volume estimates, AI-crawler analytics and agents for content work.

Verdict: Independent discussion is thin: only 9 non-promotional comments give a real opinion of Profound, and most are critical. A few users see it as one of the deeper, more mature trackers, but the recurring complaints are enterprise-level pricing, setup and UX that take effort, and prompt-volume numbers that users find opaque or implausibly high; whether its data comes from real user conversations or from purchased and synthetic panels is contested in the threads. 34 of the 54 comments mentioning it were promotional, mostly vendors and agencies using Profound as the foil for their own AI-visibility tool, and those were excluded.

What users like

  • Seen by a few users as one of the deeper, more mature trackers, and the one that comes closest to explaining why a brand gets cited rather than just counting mentions[1][2]
  • Its interface is described as slick and well liked, even by a commenter who doubts its underlying data[1]

What users complain about

  • Enterprise pricing: users call it expensive and say it is priced and built for enterprise buyers[1][2][3]
  • Prompt-volume and prompt data are not trusted: users call the numbers opaque, "crazy high" relative to traditional search volumes, or a guess, and say the data does not inspire confidence[1][2][3][4]
  • Takes effort to get going: one user found the UX too complicated with parts still under development, another had no time to do the setup it needed[1][2]
  • One skeptic sees no merit in paid trackers like it, arguing the prompts, analytics and suggested fixes are themselves generated with AI[1]

Best for

  • Larger brands with an enterprise budget that want a broad, data-heavy AI visibility tracker

Skip it if

  • Small teams or agencies on a tight monthly budget
  • Buyers who need prompt-volume figures they can verify
  • Teams without time to set up and interpret a complex dashboard
PricingVendor-stated

No public price for brands: a free 7-day trial (50 preset prompts run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews), then Enterprise at custom, sales-led pricing. For agencies, the self-serve Agency Growth plan lists client workspaces as add-ons at $399/month each but shows no base price; Agency Enterprise is custom.

In their own words

Profound is the only one that has the actual conversation data from searchers which is a pretty big value add, it’s def one of the more mature tools. Otherwise they’re all interesting.

honestly the tool sprawl here is real but most of them are just dashboards telling you "your brand appeared 3 times in perplexity this week" with no clear path to doing anything about it the ones actually worth watching are the ones that can tell you WHY you got cited not just that you did. profound seems closest to that but it's enterprise priced

It’s funny that most of these tools don’t even have their own proprietary data. I know Profound is buying most of their data from outside vendors or using synthetic data, but they have a “slick” UI/UX that people like and are creating agents. This is also why you see them hiring “AI researchers” like crazy since they’re trying to build their own data infrastructure but that’s hard and takes a long time. Also, peopl…

Well, if you're already using playwright and the "are you human?" detection is the only thing stopping you, then you could use the captcha solvers on github or others in the market. I personally don't see any merit in using Profound or any other tools in the market, they're expensive and the prompts, analytics, numbers and fixes are all... built with AI.

I looked at a bunch of these already. We tried ahrefs and profound but profound was more of an enterprise tool and I didn’t have time to spend setting that up bc I’m working on leading the eng team, not marketing. Only issue I see here with many of these tools is, which ones can actually help you improve? Ideal scenario is you make some changes and then run the scan again and your score is higher. Problem I’ve alw…

Yeah I would be very skeptical as well. I believe profound uses some sort of panel data that they then extrapolate, but their numbers are crazy high, like multiples over actual traditional search volumes.
