Thin evidence

Frase is an SEO and AI-search content platform for researching, writing and optimizing articles, auditing site pages, and tracking how a brand appears in AI answers such as ChatGPT and Google AI.

Verdict: Independent discussion is very thin: only 5 non-promotional comments in r/SEO and r/content_marketing give a real opinion, and several others are generic tool lists or plugs for other products. The users who like it use Frase for research and structure, pulling headings, entities and intent from top-ranking pages, and one uses it to draft titles and meta descriptions in bulk. Critics say its drafts read as generic and that score-driven on-page tools of this kind can push content into over-optimization.

What users like

  • One user's best tool for intent-driven page titles and meta descriptions, drafting them in Frase and exporting to Google Sheets for bulk work[1]

What users complain about

  • Written output can look generic and unreliable, with a templated text structure even when the prose is passable[1]
  • One SEO warns that tools like Frase and Surfer follow older optimization techniques that can over-optimize content, cost rankings, and lead you to write for Google instead of the searcher[1]

In their own words

I’ve tested a few AI tools for content marketing, especially for SEO and LinkedIn engagement. For my blog, SurferSEO has been the most effective. It helps optimize content with real-time SEO suggestions like keyword usage, structure, and readability. I’ve seen noticeable improvements in rankings when I follow its recommendations. For LinkedIn, I’ve had good results with Jasper AI. It has specific templates for Linke…

Koala's a good tool for pure SEO copywriting. However, I recommend using a tool like Rankability, Surfer, or Frase because of the NLP integrations. These tools extract entities (topics) from the top competitors for your keyword and then use AI to create highly relevant content. This is far superior approach because you're modeling what's already proven to work. Keep in mind though, you should always view AI gener…

I’ve tested a bunch too... what worked best for me was Frase for intent-driven titles and metas. For bulk work I usually draft in Frase then push to Sheets with a simple export... saves a ton of time. If you want a lighter option... Surfer’s Content Editor with a Google Sheets connector is a good option.

same thing with frase.io ; but the content just looked like the most generic and unreliable content… even if it can write okay simetimes, the look of the text structure is totally generic

I wrote a post about this the other day, but I think you really have to be careful using tools like Surfer and Frase these days. There is definitely an over optimization penalty in the mix by Google and these tools are based on techniques from several years ago that can cause your content to easily become over-optimized and lose rankings. You also end up writing for Google rather than the searcher which is a real p…
