ContactOut

contactout.com
Thin evidence

ContactOut finds email addresses and phone numbers for professionals through a browser extension and search portal, with list building, email campaigns and enrichment on paid plans.

Verdict: Independent discussion is thin, with about seven first-hand comments, mostly from recruiters. They credit ContactOut with accurate emails, personal addresses in particular, and use it to reach hard-to-find candidates; phone coverage is weaker, at least for SaaS contacts, and one user who only needed LinkedIn lookups found it had grown into more than they wanted. ContactOut draws heavy promotion: the corpus filter had already removed 18 repeat-promoter comments, and a burst of similar 'ContactOut beats Lusha and Cognism' replies in one recruiting thread in September 2025 was also excluded.

What users like

  • Email results are rated accurate, with personal email addresses a particular strength[1][2]
  • Helps recruiters find hard-to-reach passive candidates[1]
  • Finds an email for roughly 70 to 75 percent of contacts, which one user calls typical for the category[1]

What users complain about

  • Phone coverage was poor for SaaS contacts in one user's experience (another user's early mobile trial was positive, so this is unsettled)[1]
  • Has grown from a lookup tool into a broader sales platform; a user who only needed LinkedIn lookups found it overkill and left[1]
  • People listed in its database report opt-out requests being ignored twice before an escalated email got them removed[1]

Best for

  • Recruiters who need personal email addresses
  • Reaching hard-to-find passive candidates

Skip it if

  • Phone-first outbound into SaaS companies
  • Users who only want a simple LinkedIn lookup

In their own words

used both briefly for tech recruiting. contactout seemed stronger on personal emails, rocketreach was fine for phone numbers and overall coverage. depends what you care about more.
Agree regarding Apollo, my sense is the average lead quality has declined over the past couple of years but it’s still the biggest fish. ContactOut has surprisingly good email accuracy FWIW. Will look into default, thanks for the suggestion
really enjoying contactout. has helped find some hard to find passive candidates. Wonder if it's worth it to use their email sequencing as a low volume recruiter.
70 to 75 for email sounds about normal for ContactOut. Phone coverage being bad in SaaS is normal too and Apollo was about the same for me. If you need more fresh leads from LinkedIn and socials than just email lookup SocLeads is worth a look since it has a free verifier.
If you're mostly doing LinkedIn lookups, you're not alone. A lot of tools in this space started simple and then turned into full sales platforms. I moved away from ContactOut for the same reason, it just felt like overkill for what I needed.
FYI 🎉 if anybody is facing this problem like me in the future, I got it removed in 24 hours with a certain email format (they ignored 2 requests through their opt-out form before this). I drafted it with an ex-colleague who is a legal advisor (and added a little edge that wouldn't get me in legal trouble). Just for context, I am a founder actively talking to investors for new funding, and since July 30th, 2025, this…
