n8n alternatives

Updated ranked by independent user evidence
Why people look for alternatives to n8n
  • Steeper learning curve than Make or Zapier, and self-hosting is beyond most people's idea of no-code
  • Self-hosters carry the security risk: it has had pre-auth remote code execution CVEs, and webhook endpoints stay publicly reachable by design
  • Ongoing maintenance: Google OAuth apps left in testing mode expire tokens every seven days and stop workflows, and an unpruned executions database (1.66 GB in one case) slows the instance

Top alternatives in detail

Independent users treat Zapier as the quickest way to wire common SaaS apps together with simple trigger-filter-action flows, and a few value that it absorbs integration upkeep such as OAuth. The recurring complaints are cost and ceiling: per-task billing balloons at volume, and branching, custom code, state and approval steps push people to n8n. Nearly all of this corpus comes from r/n8n, so it over-represents people who left Zapier; about a third of the 56 comments were promotional (blog links, freelancer pitches, affiliate links, and a pair of accounts seeding a tool called duet with the same quote-wrapped talking points).
Independent discussion is very thin: only four comments carry a real first-hand or considered opinion of Make, all posted in r/n8n and r/nocode threads that compare it with n8n. Those users see Make as the friendlier place for non-coders to start, but say n8n offers more once workflows get technical or AI-heavy, and several moved on to n8n for that reason. Three of the ten comments were promotional (two plugging rival agent tools, one a near-verbatim duplicate of another account's advice), so treat this review as provisional.
